The 17th International Conference on Chemistry and Environment (ICCE) was held in Thessaloniki, Greece. The Conference took place between the 16th and 20th of June, 2019 at the Aristotle University Research Dissemination Centre (KEDEA) in Thessaloniki, Greece and was co-organized by the DCE of EuChemS and the Association of Greek Chemists. More than 500 participants from over 70 countries transformed ICCE 2019 into a melting pot of scientific knowledge and exchange of ideas. The main topics include analytical chemistry in environmental monitoring, new drinking water treatment technologies, environmental behavior of pollutants, micro-pollution and micro-plastics in water environment, soil pollution and monitoring, and risk assessment of new emergence pollutants, etc.

In recent years, the research progress in risk assessment of agricultural chemicals, ecotoxicology of pollutants and prevention and control of soil pollution in NIES has attracted much attention from international colleagues. Three researchers, Prof. Shan Zhengjun, Zhou Junying and Jiang Jinlin, were invited to make poster reports and on-the-spot ectures at the special branch of Soil Pollution and Monitoring. The research achievements of our institute in the development of risk assessment related models, the technology of pesticide on soil biological risk assessment, and the effect of pesticide on soil microbial community and function were introduced. This meeting is of great significance for us to understand the latest developments in the field of environmental chemistry and monitoring of pollutants in other countries, and to continuously promote and enhance the impact of our institute in the field of international environmental monitoring, environmental toxicology and risk assessment.
